Studies in The Book of Revelation | Lesson 8

Events under the Sixth and Seventh Seals

Questions

1. What great event follows the falling of the stars, as witnessed by the prophet under the sixth seal?

Revelation 6:13-14 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. 14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
Compare Matthew 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

2. How will that day come upon the unprepared?

Revelation 6:15-17 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; 16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: 17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

3. In view of the stupendous issue before this generation, what message does God send?

Isaiah 40:3, 10 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. 10 Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
Revelation 14:6-7, 12 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, 7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. 12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

4. What will be the condition among the nations while this message is being carried?

Revelation 11:18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
Joel 3:9, 11, 14 Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; Prepare war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up: 11 Assemble yourselves, and come, all ye heathen, and gather yourselves together round about: thither cause thy mighty ones to come down, O LORD. 14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.

5. How are the nations restrained from utterly destroying one another?

Revelation 7:1 And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.

6. What does wind symbolize in the above verse?

Daniel 7:2 Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea.
Job 1:19 And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

Note: Since the sea represents peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.” then the wind blowing on the sea represents war, strife and such things as cause suffering and death of “peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.

Revelation 17:15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.

7. For what special purpose are the winds of strife and war restrained?

Revelation 7:2-3 And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, 3 Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.

8. What is the sign or seal of the living God?

Ezekiel 20:20 And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God.
Exodus 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Note: Creative power is the distinguishing feature of the living God.

Acts 14:15 And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:

Note: The seal of an earthly monarch is that which makes valid those laws or decrees which he promulgates. It shows: (1) his title of royalty, (2) the extent of his dominion, and (3) his right to reign.

Now the Sabbath makes valid the law of God. It is the only part of the law that shows who the Law-giver is, and that distinguishes him from other gods. It (the Sabbath commandment) shows him to be the Lord thy God, the Creator of heaven and earth and all that in them is, and thus furnishes us with his title of royalty, the extent of his dominion, and his right to reign. Therefore the Sabbath may with propriety be called the seal of God. Again, the words, seal and sign are used interchangeably in the Bible, (Romans 4:11) and we have seen that the Sabbath is a sign between God and his people, thus making it the seal of God.

Romans 4:11 And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:

9. What follows the closing of the sealing message under the sixth seal?

Revelation 8:1 And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.
Matthew 25:31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

Note: The silence in heaven at the opening of the seventh seal shows that this seal covers the actual appearing of Christ in the clouds of heaven as He comes with all the angels to gather His saints. Ministry in heaven ceases, and the scene of activity among the heavenly beings is transferred to the earth for a little time, until the hosts of angels and the redeemed, led by their Captain and Saviour, return to the city of God. Half an hour, prophetic time, would be about seven days.

10. What scene of triumph did John then behold?

Revelation 7:9-10 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; 10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.

11. What question was raised and answered for the benefit of those who meet temptation and trial?

Revelation 7:13-14 And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? 14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

12. What glorious hope is set before us who must serve a little longer here?

Revelation 7:15-17 Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them. 16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. 17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.
John 12:26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

NOTE: This is victory over sin and satan, if we walk with Christ. And also preparation to enter the “New Jerusalem” or “House of God”, which also is with Christ.

13. What special incentive to service have we in present-day conditions?

Answer: While gusty winds of strife blow here and there, still God in mercy restrains the coming universal strife in order that the sealing message of Sabbath and Advent reform may be carried by us to all the world. Work not done in times of peace must be done in times of war, persecution and hardship. Now, just now, is the time to work. And our work is to publish in writing, that is booklets, pamphlets and such, and also preaching but preaching is not to cause us to neglect printing. The two are to work together as the two hands of a person working to harvest the ripe fruit so we are to harvest the earth by printing and preaching!

John 9:4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
Mark 13:10 And the gospel must first be published among all nations.
Matthew 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
