1. Can you give Solomon’s words concerning the overpowering strength of envy?

Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy? Proverbs 27:4

2. What scripture shows the exceeding cruelty of Jealousy?

jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame. Song of Solomon 8:6

3. What striking illustration do we find that shows this fact?

Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous. 1 John 3:12

4. Can someone be a murderer without physically killing someone?

Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. 1 John 3:15

5. Are there any other circumstances where men were controlled by an envious spirit? And what was the result?

And the patriarchs, moved with envy, sold Joseph into Egypt: but God was with him, Acts 7:9

8. Can you show the evil charactor of those who are activated or controlled by envy?

Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. Romans 1:29-32

but doting about (but focusing on) questions and strifes of words (arguments), whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, 1 Timothy 6:4

9. How free from all malice should the child of God be, even toward his enemy?

Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth: Proverbs 24:17

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; Matthew 5:44

10. Will anyone be saved that holds onto the spirit of envy in the heart?

For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? 1 Corinthians 3:3

Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5:21

11. Is this sentence just?

But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. Romans 2:2

12. What is the fountain from which both good and evil flow?

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. Luke 6:45

13. Then why should the heart be watched so closely?

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Proverbs 4:23

But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace. James 3:14-18

Note: If the heart is full of that wisdom which is from above we will sow peace instead of envy.

14. Can we trust the leadership that they are all free from envy?

Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will: Philippians 1:15

15. How can we escape such a character?

For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. Psalms 91:11
